How to establish an energy community?

1. Define your goal and member involvement

First, define why you want to establish an energy community. Typical reasons include reducing energy costs, utilizing local renewable energy sources, or increasing energy self-sufficiency. It is also important to determine who will be members of the community – for example a municipality, its organizations, local companies, or residents.

2. Choose an appropriate legal form

An energy community must have a legal form. It is most often established as an association or a cooperative. The chosen form affects decision-making processes, member responsibilities, and the day-to-day functioning of the community.

3. Prepare the founding documents

After establishing the legal entity, it is necessary to: register it in the relevant public register and register the energy community with the Energy Regulatory Office. These steps are required for the community to operate legally.

4. Complete the registrations

Part of the establishment process includes statutes or a founding agreement. These documents should clearly describe: the purpose of the community, the rights and obligations of members, the decision-making process, and the rules for energy sharing. It is important that the documents comply with current legislation and are understandable for all members.

5. Prepare the technical solution

An energy community works with generation sources (e.g., photovoltaics) and consumption points. It is necessary to ensure proper measurement of production and consumption and to define the rules for energy sharing among members.

6. Set up management and operations

Once the community is launched, you need a reliable tool to manage it. EnerCA gives you control over both production and consumption, simplifies energy distribution among members, and streamlines administration and settlements. Managing an energy community thus becomes a clear and manageable part of daily operations.
